Joseph H. Espenhover
Joseph H. Espenhover, 87, of Carroll died Thursday, Oct. 14,
2004 at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct.
16, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll with the Rev. Sunny
Dominic presiding.
Lector will be Dave Ramsey. Gift bearers will be his
grandchildren. Mass servers will be Travis Espenhover and Mitch Rupiper.
Eucharistic minister will be Tom Espenhover.
Casket bearers will be his sons: Duane, David, Joe Jr., Steve,
Tom, Jerry and Paul Espenhover, and his grandson, Steve Hinners.
Honorary casket bearers will be Adam Espenhover and Donald Eischeid.
Burial will be in Holy Angels Cemetery In Roselle.
Visitation will begin at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, at Twit
Funeral Home in Carroll with a rosary at 3 p.m. and a vigil service at
7:30 p.m. Visitation will resume at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. In
lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for St. Anthony
Regional Hospice and St. Anthony Nursing Home.
Born May 20, 1917, in Roselle, he was a son of Henry and Sophia (Klocke)
Espenhover. He graduated from Holy Angels in Roselle.
On May 2, 1939, Mr. Espenhover married Helen Turner at St.
Bonaventure Church in Raeville, Neb., with the Rev. A.S. Kluthe officiating.
He farmed for many years in the Manning area and worked for
Farmland in Carroll for 20 years.
He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish. He enjoyed working on cars,
studying history and playing cards.
Survivors include his children: Judy Hinners and her husband,
Arden, of Arcadia, Duane Espenhover and his wife, June, of Kearney,
Neb., David Espenhover and his wife, Maxine, of Alma, Neb., Jane
Eischeid and her husband, Donald, of Halbur, Shirley Vogl and her
husband, Kenny, of Carroll, Helen Hinners and her husband, Richard, of
Manning, Joe Espenhover Jr. and his wife, Jane, of Carroll, Steve
Espenhover of Carroll, Carol Ramsey and her husband, Dave, of Templeton,
Cindy Heinrichs and her husband, Scott, of Breda, Tom Espenhover and his
wife, Julie, of Carroll, Jerry Espenhover of Carroll, and Paul
Espenhover and his wife, Cindy, of Carroll; 44 grandchildren; 22
great-grandchildren; and two step-brothers, Julius and Ray Espenhover of
Corpus Christi, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Helen Espenhover,
in 2004; children Eugene and Debra and Mary and Gerald Espenhover in
infancy; brothers Harry and Lawrence Espenhover; sisters Mayme Schirck
and Coletta Espenhover; and grandchildren Amy Hinners and Eugene Espenhover.
