Mary Etzel
Mary P. Etzel, 80, of Davenport, formerly of Rock Island,
passed away peacefully in her sleep Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005, in
Davenport, after a long illness.
Memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic
Church, Rock Island. The family will great friends one hour prior to the
service at the church. Burial will be at a later date in Calvary
Cemetery, Rock Island.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church. Wheelan
Funeral Home, Rock Island, is handling arrangements.
Mary was born April 4, 1925, in Centerville, Iowa, daughter of
Josef and Eva Jurich. She married John A. Mack in 1946. He died in 1952.
Mary married Thomas J. Etzel in 1955 in Rock Island. He died May 1, 2004.
Mary received her education in Iowa and later attended Augustana
College in Rock Island.
Mary was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend.
She was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rock
Island, and a member of the Daughters of Isabella.
Mary loved music, the Quad City Symphony, "Little House on
the Prairie," word games and crossword puzzles, and she was a
diehard Cubs fan.
Mary especially wanted to thank all her friends and the wonderful
people who cared for her during her illness. She will miss you all.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughter, Patricia,
Davenport; her grandson, Demian De Schepper, Chicago; special friends,
Jim and Kelly. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, 11 brothers
and sisters, and a grandson, Bryan.
