| Thomas Etzel
Thomas J. Etzel, 90, of Rock Island, died Saturday, May 1,
2004, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.
A Memorial Mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic
Church, Rock Island, where he was a member. Inurnment will be in Calvary
Cemetery, Rock Island, at a later date. Visitation will be a half hour
before the service Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made
to the church. Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island, is in charge of arrangements.
Thomas was born Feb. 1, 1914, in Rock Island, the son of Fred C.
and Maryanne Sheil Etzel. Thomas Etzel and Mary P. Jurich were the first
couple to be married at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island, Aug. 27, 1955.
Mr. Etzel owned and operated the Etzel Insurance Agency in Rock
Island for many years. Thomas enjoyed photography.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; daughters, Barbra Owens,
Glendale, Calif., Deborah and husband, Steve Shields, Atalissa, Iowa,
Patricia Camasse, Bettendorf; seven grandchildren, 10
great-grandchildren; brother, Jean Etzel, Moline; and sister, Catherine
Etzel, Rock Island. He was preceded in death by his parents, and seven
brothers and sisters.
