Rita Ella Ferneding

  Rita Ella Ferneding, 89, of Manning, died Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at the Manning Plaza Nursing Home.
  Mass of the Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009, at the Sacred Heart Church in Templeton. Rev. Dale E. Reiff will officiate.
  Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Friday, July 31, 2009, at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning, where there will be a rosary by the Catholic Daughters of the Americas at 3:30 p.m. and a prayer service by the Sacred Heart Parish at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume Saturday at the church.
Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery at Templeton.
  Lector for the Mass will be Hannah Warner. Eucharistic minister will be Joea Kemper. Jeanne Kerkhoff will be the organist.
  Casket bearers will be grandchildren: Gary Ferneding, Tim Ferneding, Beth Bandow, Becky Muhlbauer, Doug Ferneding, Jill Venner, Jenny Martin, Dan Ferneding, Matt Schroeder, Angie Becker, Josh Schroeder, Brian Ferneding, Amy Hasenclever, Abby Ferneding, Kelly Ferneding, John Ferneding, Lance McNaught, Shelby Beers, Holly Warner, Heidi Warner and Hannah Warner.
  A daughter of Frank and Elizabeth (Drees) Dentlinger, she was born Sept. 16, 1919, near Halbur. She attended St. Augustine School in Halbur. After her schooling, she served many Halbur area families as mother's helper for years.
  On Oct. 18, 1944, she married Alvin Ferneding at St. Augustine Church in Halbur. The couple made their home on a farm near Templeton.
  After the death of her husband in 2004, she remained in their home. When her health began to fail, she became a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home.
  She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Templeton, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, the VFW Auxiliary and the Sacred Heart Guild. She volunteered at the New Hope Village Bargain Shop and at the Sacred Heart School and Church, where in 1986, she was recognized with the Governor's Volunteerism Award.
  Mrs. Ferneding took care of a large vegetable and flower garden and enjoyed baking and quilting. One of her great pleasures was caring for her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include four sons: Lonnie Ferneding and wife Betty of Manning, Gene Ferneding and wife Mary of Carroll, Jim Ferneding and wife Joyce of Manning and Mark Ferneding of Temple-ton; three daughters: Kay and husband Steve Schroeder of Kingsley, Jane McNaught and Tom Timperley of Omaha, Neb. and Joni and husband Mike Warner of Manning; daughter-in-law, Jean Ferneding of Manning; brother, Norm Dentlinger and wife Katherine of Coon Rapids; sisters-in-law Rita Dentlinger of Manning, Mary Dentlinger of Audubon, Lillian Ferneding of Carroll; and brother-in-law, George Siepker of Gray.
  Mrs. Ferneding was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alvin; a son, Mike in 2007; parents-in-law, Frank and Rose Ferneding; brothers: Wilbur, John, Al, Ambrose and Francis Dentlinger; sisters: Marie Siepker and Anita Dentlinger; sisters-in-law: Neva Dentlinger and Catherine Dentlinger; and brother-in-law, Paul Ferneding.
