Services Held in Viola Today For Mrs. Flaherty, 80
Mrs. Mary (Mayme) Flaherty, 80, a resident of Viola, died
Sunday night, Dec. 20, 1964 at the Hill Top Nursing Home in Davenport,
where she had been a patient for the past two years.
The body was brought to the Crummy Funeral Home, Viola. Rosary was
recited at the funeral home at 7:30 Tuesday night.
Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at 8:30 in the
Funeral home and 9 at St. John's Roman Catholic Church in Viola. The
Rev. C. M. Meyer, pastor officiated and burial was in Alexis.
The former Mary Lee was born Dec. 21, 1883, in Warren County, a
daughter of John and Margaret Lee.
She attended Science Hall Elementary School in Warren County, and
was married to Richard Flaherty in Alexis. He died in 1954.
Mrs. Flaherty was a member of St. John's Church and the Altar and
Rosary Society of the church.
Survivors are three sons, William of Viola, Jerald of Davenport
and Richard of Andalusia; three daughters, Mrs. Glen Berkley of
Davenport, Mrs. Stanley Wynn of Milledgeville and Mrs. Stewart Smith of
Viola; 30 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Tom Lee of Alexis.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, a grandson, four
brothers and three sisters.
