John R. Flynn

Farmer South Of Town Died Sunday Evening-Funeral Wednesday

  John Flynn, 70 years old, a resident of Washington county most of his life, died at 7:30 yesterday evening at his home, one and one-half miles south of Washington.
  He had been ill for the last fifteen months and bedfast since Labor day of this year.
  Funeral services will be held at St. James Catholic church at nine o'clock Wednesday morning, it was announced today at Sherman's funeral home, where funeral plans were made. Father J. H. O'Donnell, pastor of St. James Church, will have charge of the services, to be followed by burial in Elm Grove cemetery. The casket will not be opened at the church, it was announced.
  The Knights of Columbus will meet at eight o'clock Tuesday evening to go to the Flynn home for a rosary service and will also attend the funeral as a group at the church Wednesday morning.
  Mr. Flynn was a member of St. James church, of the Washington council, Knights of Columbus and of the Holy Name society of the church.
  He was born in Mercer county, Ill., near Aledo, on August 17, 1862, a son of Michael and Catherine (Dirr) Flynn. When he was a young man he came to Washington county and was married Thanksgiving day, 1888, to Abigail Swift, who died July 25, 1931.
  After their marriage they lived in this county, but for a time lived in Illinois, returning to this county sixteen years ago.
  Surviving him are the following children: W. F. Flynn of Wellman, M. M., Kathryn, Dennis and George of this community and Leonard of Newman Grove, Nebr. One child, Alfred, died in infancy. There is also one brother, Dennis of Viola, Ill.
