Death of Michael Flynn
Michael Flynn, an old time resident of Mercer county, passed
away at the home of his son, John Flynn, northeast of Aledo last
Thursday at the age of 86 years. Mr. Flynn came to Mercer county in 1862
and settled on the home farm in 1864. During his long residence here he
was one of the best and stalwart supporters of good citizenship and a
man of good example in his life. His death is mourned by many friends.
Obituary
Michael Flynn was born in County Galway, Ireland, September 24,
1828 and died at his home four miles northeast of Aledo, Ill., on
November 12, 1914. He came to America October 8, 1849. He was married to
Catherine Derr January 9, 1862. To this union three children were born,
William, John and Dennis. His wife, Catherine Flynn died December 4,
1866. He was married again on October 15, 1867 to Bridget O'Brien who
with John and Dennis survive him, William having died June 7, 1886. He
also leaves one sister, Mrs. Michael Kennedy of Creston, Ia. Funeral
services were held from St. Patrick's church at Chesterton, Ind., and
burial was in the St. Patrick cemetery beside his first wife, Father
Eberle of St. Patrick's church officiating.
