John Ford

Died in Creston.

  John Ford died at his home at 319 South Walnut street, Creston, Iowa, Saturday, June 7, 1913, at 11 o'clock a.m., aged 81 years. Mr. Ford was a resident of Corning vicinity about 25 years and had many friends here. His death was due to old age. Mr. Ford was born in Westmeath county, Ireland, in 1832, and came to America at the age of 15 years, locating Pennsylvania and later he moved to Milwaukee. On the 13th of October, 1862, he was married to Mary Vaughn in Milwaukee and they located in Illinois in 1866, where they remained for several years. Mr. Ford worked in the coal mines in Illinois for 12 years. In 1875 he and his family came to Adams county, Iowa, locating on a farm near Brooks, where he remained for about 25 years. Some 14 years ago Mr. Ford retired from farm life and located in Creston, where he remained until his death. Beside his wife, he is survived by seven children. They are Patrick John Ford and Joe Ford, of Creston; Mrs. W. Larson of Corning; Ed Ford, of Iveyville; Mrs. Mary Donnelly, of Conception, Mo.; Mrs. William Gentle, of Estherville, and T. W. Ford of Lenox. Three children preceded their father in death. They are James Ford, who died in LaSalle, Ill.; Margaret Ford, who passed from this life on the farm home near Brooks, and Mrs. Sarah Pickett, who died in Enid, Okla. The funeral services of Mr. Ford were held Monday morning at 9 o'clock at St. Malachy's church in Creston, conducted by Rev. Father Dennis Murphy and the body was brought to Corning on train No. 3 for interment in Calvary cemetery south of town. Rev. Father Richard Dollard, of Corning, and Rev. Father Dennis Murphy, of Creston, conducted short services at the grave. The pall bearers in Corning were old friends of the deceased, John and Joe Lynam, Charles Arthur, E. E. Odell, Mack Richey and Gaylor Odell. A large number of beautiful floral offerings were expressive of the high esteem in which Mr. Ford was held by his friends. He was a good man, a kind friend and neighbor and his death will be mourned by many. Friends from Creston who accompanied the relatives to our city were Rev. Father Dennis Murphy, Mrs. Michael Kelly, Mrs. Margaret Doahue, Mrs. Matt Conway, Mr. White and D. Conway.
