Thomas Forsyth

  Oskaloosa - V. Thomas Forsyth, 80, of Oskaloosa, died Tuesday, September 21, 2010, at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa. He was born August 17, 1930, at Aledo, Illinois, the son of Sherman and Hattie Castor Forsyth. He graduated from the Viola (IL) High School with the class of 1948, and then attended the University of Colorado, and then Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois. He served his country in the U. S. Army. On December 29, 1962, he was united in marriage to Eleanor Mack at Aledo, Illinois. They moved to Oskaloosa in September, 1968, and Tom managed the J.I. Case dealership until 1975. He then worked in sales for Dakon Equipment Manufacturing, and then later sales of truck equipment based in Des Moines until 1989 when a he suffered a stroke which forced his early retirement. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the American Legion, and Elks, and had enjoyed golfing, and spending time with friends.
  His family includes his wife, Eleanor Forsyth of Oskaloosa; three sons: Michael (& Jennifer) Forsyth of San Antonio, Texas, Mark Forsyth of Los Angeles, California, and John Forsyth of Colorado Springs, Colorado; four grandchildren: Jonathon, Jacqueline, Kay Lynn, and David Forsyth.
  Tom was preceded in death by his parents; and five brothers: Bob, James, Lytle, Dudley, and David Forsyth.
  Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 25, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Mary's Church in Oskaloosa with the Reverend Thomas Spiegel officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery, Oskaloosa, with graveside military rites given by members of the Oskaloosa V.F.W., D.A.V. and American Legion. Visitation will begin at the Bates Funeral Chapel on Friday after 11 a.m., and the family will be at the funeral chapel on Friday from 6 - 8 p.m. with a Christian Vigil Service Friday at 8 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Memorials may be made to the Mahaska County Red Cross.
