Mrs. Fritch
Funeral services were held Monday for Mrs. Frank J. Fritch,
78, of Rock Island, at the Wheelan Funeral Home, and at St. Pius X Roman
Catholic Church. Burial was in St. John's Cemetery, Viola. The body was
taken from Crummy Funeral Home, Viola, to The Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock
Island. Mrs. Fritch died Friday night at Moline Public Hospital, after a brief illness.
The former Ruth Spicer was born in Davenport, Sept. 4, 1893. She
was graduated from Immaculate Conception academy for Girls, where she
also completed a post-graduate course in art.
She was married to Frank Fritch of Viola in August 1916 and
resided there until moving to Rock Island in 1950. Mr. Fritch preceded her in death.
Mrs. Fritch taught school for five years. She was a member of St.
Pius X Church, the Altar and Rosary Society and Circle 3 Sodality in the church.
She was a prominent area artist and art critic, and active in
local art exhibits. She was also a member of the Woman's Club of Rock
Island and past president of the clubs gardens and music study
departments, and the Hauberg Civic Center's senior citizens.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. James O'Grady, Palo Alto,
Calif., and Mrs. William Willits, rural new Boston; three sons, Paul of
Tarzana, Calif.; Eugene of Denver, Colo., and Laurence of East Moline
and 20 grandchildren
She also was preceded in death by a brother.
