Velda Goodvin
Velda Marie Goodvin, 71, was born Sept. 15, 1922, to Charles
and Stella Dunn Phillips in Adams County, Iowa, and died March 12, 1994,
at Mercy Hospital in Corning.
She attended rural schools in Adams County and high school in Corning.
She was married to Don Goodvin at Corning on June 5, 1946, and
they began their married life on the farm where he was born.
In 1950 they moved to a farm in Taylor County where they raised
livestock and milked cows. They moved to Corning in 1973.
Mrs. Goodvin was a member of the Fairview Church, Her hobbies
included playing cards, especially pinochle and pitch, working crossword
and jigsaw puzzles and crocheting.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband in 1986;
three brothers, George (wife Edith) Phillips, Vernon and Harvey
Phillips; two brothers-in-law, Orvalle Konecne and Bernice Gerber.
She is survived by her sons Darwin and Gaylen (wife Lorna)
Goodvin; two grandchildren; and sisters Ruby Konecne and Lois Gerber;
and a sister-in-law, Muriel Phillips, all of Corning.
Services were held March 15 at Coen-Beaty Funeral Home in Corning
with Rev. Howard Wells and Rev. Ken Rummer officiating.
Casket bearers were Fred Graf, Bill Preston, Bob Herzog, Harold
Agnew, Darrell Harvey, Reldon Huntington.
Honorary bearers were Jesse Given, Bill Shuler, Clark Peterson,
Marland Travis, Virgil Goodvin, Terry Lundquist. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Corning.
Memorials may be made to the Scholarship Fund, Ourqc Post No.
117, American Legion, Corning.
Coen-Beaty Funeral Home of Corning, was in charge of arrangements.
