Darol J. Grossman
Mass of the Christian burial for Darol J. Grossman of Carroll
will be at 1:30.p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999, at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll.
Mr. Grossman, 60, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999, at his residence of
an apparent heart condition.
The Revs. James McCormick, Peter Due Nguyen, James Bruch and Luke
Steffes will concelebrate the Mass. Gift bearers will be Mr. Grossman's
seven grandchildren: Chad, Matt, Christopher, Michael and Justin
Grossman and Alexander and Melissa Wagner. Eucharistic ministers will be
Marian and Raymond Irlbeck.
Casket bearers will be John J. Janning, Jerome Janning, Bernie
Janning, Kenneth Janning, Lowell Janning and Earnest Janning. Honorary
casket bearers will be members of the Carroll Home Builders Association.
Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Friends
called and a rosary was prayed this afternoon at Sharp Funeral Home in
Carroll. Holy Spirit Parish will hold a Christian wake service at 7:30
and another rosary will be prayed at 8:15 tonight at the funeral home.
A son of Lawrence and Eva (Steffes) Grossman, he was born Oct.
29, 1938, at Roselle and spent his lifetime in Roselle and Carroll. Mr.
Grossman attended Holy Angels Grade School at Roselle and graduated from
Carroll High School.
He and Louise Janning were married Aug. 24, 1959, at Our Lady of
Mount Carmel Church in Mount Carmel.
The Grossmans resided in Carroll and moved to a home three miles
north of Carroll in 1965.
Mr. Grossman was employed by General Excavating Co. of Carroll from 1968
to 1977, when he began Grossman and Sons Excavating Co. of Carroll. He
owned and operated the business until his death.
He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish and its Men's Club, the
Carroll Home Builders Association and Carroll County Farm Bureau. He was
a former member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish and its Holy Name Society.
Survivors include six children: Russ Grossman and his wife, Gail,
of Carroll, Todd Grossman and his wife, Deb, of Carroll, Beth Copenhaver
and her husband, Dave, of Perry, Lois Neu and her husband, Eric, of
Carroll, Lisa Wagner and her husband, John, of Carroll and Jason
Grossman of Carroll; seven grandchildren; four sisters: Jolene Wessling
and her husband, Louis, of Breda, Marian Irlbeck and her husband,
Raymond, of Aspinwall, Dorene Benson of Clear Lake and Francis Ostrander
and her husband, George, of DePere, Wis.; and nine siblings-in-law and
their spouses: Art Mosman of Carroll, John J. and Mary Ann Janning of
Carroll, Jerome and Mary Lou Janning of Carroll, Bernie and Arlene
Janning of Carroll, Kenneth and June Janning of Carroll, Lowell and
Julie Janning of Glidden, Earnest and Diane Janning of Glidden, Dorothy
and-Art Becker of Dunlap and Lois and Dan Mein of Leavenworth, Kan.
Mr. Janning (Grossman) was preceded in death by his parents; his
wife, Louise, in 1993; a sister, Janet Mosman; his parents-in-law: John
B. and Theodora Janning; and three siblings-in-law: Larry Benson and
Lawrence and Jean Janning.
