Mrs. Elizabeth Grote
Mrs. Elizabeth Grote, 93, of Breda, died at 1:20 a.m. Friday
in St. Anthony Hospital after a two-month illness.
Requiem mass will be offered at 9 a.m. Monday in St. Bernard's
Church at Breda. Burial will be in the parish cemetery there.
Friends may call after 7 p.m. Saturday at the Twit Funeral Home
here. The Christian Mothers Sociality of St. Bernard's parish will pray
the rosary a4 8 p.m. Saturday. The rosary will also be recited at 8 p.m. Sunday.
Mrs. Grote, widow of Bernard Grote, was born Feb. 19, 1866, in
St. Charles County, Mo. Her maiden name was Elizabeth Rauch. In 1880,
she came to this locality with her parents, John and Sybilla Schemel Rauch.
She lived on a farm near Breda until 1928, when she moved to
Breda. For the last five years she had resided in the Bishop Drumm Home
for the Aged in Des Moines.
Her marriage look place April 26, 1892, in St. Bernard's Church
at Breda, with the Rev. Conrad Schulte officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Grote
celebrated their golden wedding anniversary April 26, 1942. He died July 19, 1945.
Mrs. Grote is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Henry (Laura)
Oswald, Carroll; Mrs. Cyril (Ann) Snyder and Mrs. Walter (Christine)
Snyder, Breda; one son, Herman Grote, Breda; one sister, Mrs. Tena
Laugel, Breda; 46 grandchildren and 66 great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two
infant sons; two daughters, Mrs. Ben (Agnes) Stork in 1933 and Mrs.
Arthur (Marguerite) Derner in 1946; two sisters, Mrs. Agnes Geier and
Mayme Rauch, and three brothers, Frank, Charles and William Rauch.
Mrs. Grote was a member of St. Bernard's Church, Breda, the
Christian Mothers Sodality of the parish and also of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish.
She had taught in rural schools about eight years.
