Herman W. Grote
Breda - Herman W. Grote, 76, of rural Breda died of a heart
ailment at 3 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in
Carroll, after a one-day illness.
Mass of the resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday
at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Mt. Carmel, by the Rev. LeRoy
Seuntjens. Interment will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery here.
Friends may call after 7 p.m. Thursday at the Sharp Funeral Home in
Carroll. The rosary will be recited Thursday at 8 p.m. and Friday at 3,
8 (parish) and 8:45 p.m.
Mr. Grote was born at Varina Feb. 6, 1899. At the age of six
years he moved with his parents, Bernard and Elizabeth Rauch Grote, to
Sac County, living there three years. The family moved then to a farm 1
1/2 miles west and 1/4 mile north of Mt. Carmel, which has been Mr.
Grote's home since. He married Colette Schettler at St. Bernard's Church
here Aug. 23, 1927. He was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church and
the Catholic Order of Foresters at Breda.
Surviving with his wife are 13 children: Paul, Norbert and Jack
of Carroll; Ralph of Wadsworth, Kan.; Leonard of Minooka, Ill.; Mrs.
Lyle (Lorraine) Vonnahme of Arcadia; Mrs. Joe (Jeanie) Rosener of
Westside; James of Phoenix, Ariz.; Mrs. Leonard (Mary) Salier of
Manning; Bill of Manchester; Mrs. John (Alice) Hamilton of Jefferson;
Mrs. Duane (Judy) Olberding of Coulter and Ted of Gibson City, Ill.
Also surviving are 53 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren,
four stepgrandsons and three stepgreat-grandchildren; and three sisters,
Mrs. Laura Oswald of Carroll, Mrs. Anna Snyder and Mrs. Walter Snyder of Breda.
Mr. Grote was preceded in death by five grandchildren, two
sisters and two infant brothers.
