Francis J. Haney
Francis J. Haney, 70, of Coal Valley, formerly of Oquawka,
Ill., died at 5:50 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, 1989, in Moline, Ill.
Born Aug 1, 1919, in Keithsburg, Ill., he was the son of Thomas
and Margaret Ranney Haney. He married Phyllis M. McOlgan June 12, 1943,
in Camp Shelby, Miss.
He was reared and educated in Keithsburg, Ill., and attended
business school in Springfield, Ill. He was employed as a rural mail
carrier with the Post Office, Oquawka, Ill., for many years. He was a
U.S. Army veteran of World War II, manager with the VFW, Gladstone,
Ill., and had served terms on the Oquawka School Board.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Maureen Brown, Oquawka, Ill.;
two sons, Patrick A. Haney, Concord, N.C., and Michael Haney, Sleepy
Hollow, Ill.; two sisters, Mrs. Evelyn Harney, Aledo, Ill. and Mrs.
Helen Peters, Oquawka, Ill.; and nine grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Turnbull
Funeral Home, Monmouth, Ill.
A graveside committal service for Mr. Haney will be at noon
Saturday in Oquawka Cemetery with the Rev. John Podlashes officiating.
A memorial has been established for the Oquawka elementary
School.
