Thomas Haney

The community was shocked and grieved Sunday morning when the news of the death of Thomas Haney was received. Mr. Haney was preparing to retire for the night when his daughter, Miss Evelyn, was attracted by his calling and on investigation she found that her father had fallen in the dining room and was in an unconscious condition. She at once called Dr. Manelli who pronounced it Augina Pectoria (heart Ailment), and Mr. Haney passed away in a few minutes without regaining consciousness.
Thomas Haney, son of Patrick and Margaret O'Malley Haney, was born in Abington township, Jan. 22, 1868, and passed away on Sunday, Sept. 9, 1934, at 12:10 a.m. Mr. Haney received his education in the country schools and spent most of his life on the farm. He and his brother, Joseph Haney, owned a number of farms and were extensive stock raisers and were widely known all over different counties.
Feb 25, 1908, he was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Ranney, of Little York, by Rev. Father Sheridan, of Earleville. To this union five children were born, one son Thomas dying in infancy and those remaining with his wife to mourn his passing are three daughters: Mrs. Lawrence Jasper, Davenport; Mrs. Chauncey Peters, of Oquawka; and Miss Evelyn Haney at home and one son, Francis J. Haney at home. He also leaves one brother, Joseph Haney, of this city. His parents, and sister, Miss Anna Haney, passed away a number of years ago. He also leaves four grandchildren
Mr. Haney and family lived on the farm until 1913 when Mr. Haney was in an accident causing him to become a cripple and after that he with his family move to Keithsburg, having made their home here since. Mr. Haney was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic church of Keithsburg, where funeral services were held this (Wednesday) morning at 9:30 o'clock with Rev. John T. Shields saying the Requiem High Mass assisted by the St. Mary's choir. Casket bearers were six cousins of the deceased, Thomas, John, Edward, Arthur, George and Michael O'Malley. Burial was in the family lot in St. Mary's cemetery.

Haney--Ranney

The marriage of Miss Margerette Ranney of Monmouth to Thomas Haney was solemnized in the parlor of the Catholic parsonage at Earlville, Illinois, Tuesday morning, Rev. P. F. Sheridan, a former pastor in this city, officiating. The bride is a daughter of Mrs. Emily Ranney and formerly lived on a farm near Little York. She is a handsome young lady with many accomplishments and enjoys the respect and admiration of her many friends and acquaintances. The groom is the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Haney, who live east of the city, and has been raised since childhood in this vicinity. He is a young farmer who has made an enviable start in life and like his young wife has a large circle of friends in both Henderson and Mercer counties. Mr. and Mrs. Haney left shortly after the ceremony for a week's stay in Chicago. They will live in the house now occupied by his parents. The latter with their daughter, Anna, will move to this city in the near future.
