Paul Happe dies in crash
A 49-year-old rural Carroll man was killed Tuesday in a
car-truck crash just west of Badger.
Authorities said Paul Happe was killed instantly when he apparently was
making a U-turn on a county road and his car was struck broadside by a
truck driven by William Barton, 45, of Fort Dodge.
Barton was hospitalized at Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort
Dodge with multiple injuries.

Paul Happe
Paul George Happe, 49, of Carroll, was killed in an automobile
accident Tuesday. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:30
a.m. Thursday at St. Lawrence Church. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home In
Carroll after 5 p.m. Wednesday. Rosaries will be recited at 8 and 8:45
p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Happe, the son of George and Eleanor (Bucholtz) Happe, was
born September 25, 1928 at Carroll. He was a 1947 graduate of Scranton
High School.
His marriage to Joan Presnell took place November 22, 1949 in
Scranton. Mr. Happe was a district sales manager for the Garst and
Thomas Company, where he had been employed eight years. He and his
family had resided in Churdan until August 15, 1977 when they moved to Carroll.
He was a member of St. Lawrence Church and the Lion's Club in Churdan.
Survivors include his wife, Joan; five sons, Rick of Churdan,
David of Scranton, Jim of Westminster, Colo., and Joe and Doug at home;
three daughters, Mrs. Rob (Susan) Walker of Glidden, Cindy a student at
ISU, Ames, and Debbie at home; two brothers, Melvin of Pennsylvania and
Robert of Churdan; four sisters, Mrs. John (Edna) Lawrence of Scranton,
Mrs. Leo (Rita) Downs of Churdan, Mrs. Dorothy Beatty of Pennsylvania
and Mrs. Alan (Ramona) Scott of Omaha; three grandchildren and his
mother-in-law, Mrs. Isabell Presnell of Scranton.
