James E. Hatton
James E. (Birdie) Hatton, 80, of Corning died Monday, January
6, at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Corning. The son of Thomas E.
Hatton and Sarah Ann Barry, he was born September 23, 1894, in Adams County, Iowa.
He was united in marriage to Alice L. Cullen at St. Patrick's Church in
Massena, Iowa, November 26, 1919.
Survivors include his loving wife, Alice; five sons, John P. of
Tacoma, Wash., Robert L. of Corning, Iowa, William E. of Denver, Colo.,
James E. of Springfield, Ill. and Richard L. of Lincoln, Neb.; two
daughters, Mickey Holste of Kansas City, Mo. and Sarah Ann Herring of
Chino; four daughters-in-law, Mary L. and family of Tacoma, Katherine
and family of Denver, Debra June and family of Springfield, Ill. and
Coretta and family of Lincoln; twenty-seven grandchildren and seven
great-grandchildren; three brothers, William of Eagle Rock, Calif.,
Thomas of Fonda, Iowa and Lewis of Downey, Calif.; three sisters, Bertha
Burk of Huntington Park, Calif., Marcella Anstey of Atlantic, Iowa and
Gladys Curry of Costa Mesa, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Ceil Hatton and
Marian Hatton and two brothers-in-law, Willard Burk and Earl Curry.
He was preceded in death by four children, Gerald Thomas,
Lawerence Richard, Carolyn Ann and Bernard Emmett; one brother, Francis
L. and four brothers and sisters who died in infancy.
Birdie was a loving husband, father, grandfather and
great-grandfather. He loved life tremendously and enjoyed his family to the end.
Funeral services were held at St. Patrick Church in Corning
January 9 at 10 a.m. with Father Lloyd Connolly officiating. Pallbearers
were his five sons, John P., Robert L., William E., James E., and
Richard L. Hatton and son-in-law, Merlin L. Holste. Mrs. Bill Kelly was
organist. Bill Kelly and Art Marlatt were ushers, assisted by Herbert
James Holste of Springfield and Thomas P. Hatton of Lincoln, Nebraska.
Military graveside services were conducted by Oureq Post 117,
American Legion, Corning and Williamson. Interment was in Calvary
Cemetery, Corning, Iowa.
All seven children, John P., Tacoma, Wash., Mickey Holste of
Kansas City, Mo., Robert L. of Corning, James E., Springfield, Ill.,
Sarah Ann Herring, Chino, Calif., and Richard L. of Lincoln, Ne.; three
daughters-in-law and families, Katherine, Michelle, Mark and Marla of
Denver, Colo., Debra June, Pamela and Danny of Springfield, Ill. and
Loretta, Tom and Todd, Lincoln, Ne., grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel
Holste and Matthew, Minneapolis, Minn., Suzanne Nicholson and Christina
of Bedford, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert J. Holste of Springfield, Ill., Thomas
Patrick Hatton, Steven Lewis Hatton and David Patrick of Lincoln, Ne.
attended the funeral services.
