William L. Hatton
William Leo Hatton, son of Thomas and Sarah Barry Hatton, was
born in Adams County, Iowa, south of Corning, March 1, 1889 and entered
into rest July 3, 1984 at the Veterans Hospital at Long Beach, Calif.,
at the age of 95 years, 4 months and 2 days.
He was baptized at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Corning, Iowa,
and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He attended school in Adams County and helped his father with
farming until enlisting in the Army during World War I. Following his
military service, he farmed in Missouri for several years, then moved to
California where he lived at Pasadena and Eagle Rock before moving to
Costa Mesa where he made his home until his death.
Preceding him in death were his parents; four brothers, Francis,
James (Birdie), Thomas and Lewis and two sisters, Bertha Burk and Gladys Curry.
Survivors are his sister, Marcella Anstey of Exira; two
sisters-in-law, Alice Hatton of Corning, Iowa and Marian Hatton of
California; two brothers-in-law, Willard Burk and Earl Curry, both of
California, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at St. Patrick Church July 7 at 10:30
a.m. with Father Fred Reischl officiating. Military rites were conducted
by Ourcq Post #117, American Legion, Corning. Interment was in Calvary
Cemetery, Corning, Iowa.
Music was furnished by St. Patrick choir, with Eleanor Kelly
organist. Casket bearers were Leo, John, Larry, Thomas, Charles Anstey
and Larry Hatton.
