Barney Heithoff Dies Today After Brief Illness
76 Year Old Pioneer Had Excellent Health Until Recently
Barney Heithoff, prominent retired farmer, passed away at
10:50 Tuesday morning at the St. Anthony Hospital after an illness of
less than two weeks. Monday morning, July 17, a few days after he was
taken ill, Mr. Heithoff underwent an operation for an intestinal
obstruction. Sunday July 23, he submitted to a second operation.
Mr. Heithoff, who was seventy-six years old, had never been ill
until this time.
The body will be taken Wednesday noon from the Kircher-Dietrich
Funeral Home to the family residence, where it will rest until the time
of the services.
Rites will be held at 9 o'clock Friday morning at SS. Peter and
Paul's Church and burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Mr. Heithoff, one of the early day residents of Carroll County,
was born Apr. 5, 1863, at Guttenberg, Iowa, a son of Barney and
Catherine Heithoff. He was the second oldest in a family of five boys.
To Carroll County
In the fall of 1870, when he was only seven years old, he came to
Carroll County with his parents, who located on a farm seven miles
southwest of Carroll.
Mr. Hclthoff was married May 20, 1890, to Miss Anna Kettman of
Templeton at Sacred Heart Church, Templeton. Mr. and Mrs. Heithoff made
their home on their farm two miles south of Rosellc, where all of their
children were born. Retiring from the farm in the spring of 1929, they
moved into their new home which they built at 121 South Maple Street.
This is their present home.
Surviving Mr. Heithoff are his wife and ten children: Mrs. Frank
Roth (Katie), Elgin, Neb.; Henry Heithoff, Elgin, Neb.; Mrs. Henry
Behrens (Mamie), Roselle; Mrs. Joe Kitt (Rosa), Dedham; Ben Heithoff,
Elgin, Neb.; Albert Heithoff, Elgin, Neb.; Rudolph Heithoff, Elgin.
Neb.; Peter Heithoff, Petersburg, Neb.; Leo Heithoff, Roselle, and
Norbert Heithoff, at home.
One son, Frank, died in 1918 at the age of seventeen.
39 Grandchildren
Besides the survivors above named Mr. Heithoff leaves 39
grandchildren and three brothers: John Heithoff, Templeton; Joe Heithoff,
Cedar Rapids, Neb., and August Heithoff, Carroll. Another brother, Henry
Heithoff, died in 1918.
Mr. Heithoff, who was a member of SS. Peter and Paul's Church,
died well fortified with the last rites of his church. He belonged to
the Holy Name Society of the parish.
All of Mr. Heithoff's children will be here for the funeral
services. They were also here to visit him during his Illness.

Throngs Attend Last Rites for Barney Heithoff
Six Sons Carry Him to Last Resting Place
SS. Peter and Paul's Church was filled with relatives and
friends at the funeral services tor Barney Heithoff, which were held at
9 o'clock Friday morning. The requiem mass was offered by the Rev. L. Schenkelberg.
Burial was in the family lot in the parish cemetery with six sons
serving as pallbearers. The sons were Henry, Ben, Peter, Rudolph,
Norbert and Leo Heithoff.
All of Mr. Heithoff's ten children were here for the funeral.
Other relatives at the rites included Joe Heithoff of Cedar Rapids,
Neb.; John Helthoff, Templeton ; Mr. and Mrs. William Heithoff, Dike, Ia.;
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Braukman and son, Alvin, Varina; Mr. and Mrs. John
Delterman and Mr. and Mrs. Pete Delterman, LeMars; Mr. and Mrs. Ben
Niehaus and son, Clayton, Remsen, and Mr. and Mrs. Pete Kuhl, Seward, Neb.
Many friends from the surrounding community were also present.
