Anton J. Hoffman Is Taken By Death
Anton J. Hoffman, sr., 83, retired farmer, died of a heart
attack at 5:30 p.m. Sunday in the home of his son, Frank X. Hoffman, one
and one-half miles west of Carroll on Highway 30.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning. Rites at 8:30 at
St. Francis church, Maple River, with the Rev. Fr. P. M. Mattes
officiating, will be followed by services at Sacred Heart church,
Templeton, at 10 o'clock, with the Very Rev. F. P. Schultes officiating
the requiem mass. Burial will be in the parish cemetery in Templeton.
The body is resting at the Sharp Funeral home, where the rosary
will be prayed at 8 o'clock tonight. It will be recited at 8:30 tomorrow
night, with the Rev. Fr. Schultes leading the prayers.
Mr. Hoffman, born July 26, 1866, in Chicago, Ill., came to
Carroll county with his parents, Anton and Catherine Hoffman, when he
was a small boy. The family settled on a farm southwest of Carroll,
later moving to a farm southeast of Templeton.
Mr. Hoffman was married October 18, 1898, to Anna Haferland at
Sacred Heart church, Templeton, with the Rev. Fr. Schulte officiating.
The couple lived on the home place southeast of Templeton. After his
wife's death, June 6, 1926, Mr. Hoffman continued to reside there until
1929, when he went to the home of his son, Frank X. Hoffman.
He was a member of St. Francis parish, Maple River, and the Holy
Name society of Sacred Heart church, Templeton.
Surviving are six sons and one daughter: Frank X., Carroll; Anton
J., Glidden; Peter, John and William, Templeton; Joe, Manning and Mrs.
Leo Steffes (Elizabeth), Canute, Okla.; 31 grandchildren, six
great-grandchildren and one brother, Peter Hoffman, Roselle.
Two brothers, Frank and John, preceded him in death.
