Augustus Jerome Hogan

  Gus J. Hogan, 61, well known Adams county citizen, died at his farm home near Corning Saturday night at 11 o'clock.
  Mr. Hogan suffered a serious heart attack about three weeks ago, but seemed on the road to recovery. Saturday afternoon he was suddenly stricken with a paralytic stroke and his condition became worse until the end.
  Augustus Jerome Hogan was born May 5, 1876 on a farm in Taylor county, Iowa. He was the second son of Thomas and Catherine Hogan, deceased, and lived in Adams county and on the homestead the past 4? years.
  Three brothers survive. They are Frank, with whom he made his home; William of Greenfield and Mr. W. K. Hogan of Corning. He is survived also by four sisters, Sister Mary Rosalla of Ottumwa; Mrs. Mary Lamb of Greybull, Wyoming; and Elizabeth and Theresa of Corning. Also three nephews, Paul Joseph Hogan, who attends St. Benedict's college at Atchison, Kansas, Maurice Hogan of Massena; Donald Hogan of Greenfield; one niece, Alice Hogan of Greenfield.
  Funeral services were held Tuesday at 9:30 a. m. from St. Patrick's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Father M. J. Powers conducting. Burial was in Calvary cemetery. Pall bearers were: Tom Roach, Jim Keefe, Griff Jones, Laverne Smith, Dan Kennedy and George Martin.
  Mr. Hogan lived and worked successfully in agricultural pursuits in the community. He was widely known for his jovial disposition and neighborly spirit and will be missed in the neighborhood where he lived so long.
  One sister, Margaret, passed away September 23, 1902. All the brothers and sisters attended the funeral except Mrs. Lamb of Greybull who was unable to attend.
  Out of town relatives and friends who attended the funeral were, Sister Mary Rosalla and Sister Mary Raymond of Ottumwa, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Hogan and daughter, Alice and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Hogan of Greenfield, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Hogan of Massena.
  Mrs. Catherine Pins of Dubuque; Mrs. George Schmitt of Farley; Mrs. Wm. Collins and daughter Josephine and son Alfred of Danbury, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Collins, Jr. of Mapleton, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. D. P. Hogan and Mrs. Thos. Flanagan of Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. Pete Curry and son of Stanton, Ia.
  Mrs. Ira Jacobs and three children of Fontanelle; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bagshaw of Massena; Frank Bentley of Creston.
