Thomas W. Hogan
Died
Thomas W. Hogan died at his home two miles southeast of
Corning Wednesday afternoon, January 13th, 1909 at four o'clock, of
heart failure, the result of many years of suffering of asthma, aged 68
years, 10 months and 21 days.
He was born Feb. 22, 1840, in Amsterdam, New York, and came with
his parents to Iowa, in 1842, locating in Dubuque county, where he grew
to manhood. In 1865 he went, to St. Louis, Missouri where he resided for
several years. Returning to Iowa he came to Taylor county in 1870, and
November 5 1871, was married to Miss Catherine Collins. To this union
were born ten children, eight of whom are living, one dying in infancy,
and one, Miss Margaret, died in 1902. The living are: Frank, Gus, Will
and Joe and Misses Mary, Lizzie, Theresa and Sister M. Rosalia of
Davenport, Iowa, who with the faithful wife and one brother, M. Hogan,
Sr., of Corning and one sister, Mrs. Anna Morris, of Bevington, Iowa are
left to mourn the loss.
On account of failing health and thinking a change of climate
might prove beneficial the family moved to Andrain County, near Mexico,
Mo., in 1883 where they resided until 1893, when they returned to Iowa,
and bought the farm where they have since resided. While living in
Missouri Mr. Hogan joined the Knights oŁ Father Mathew and was a member
of that order when lie died. The funeral was held Friday morning at ten
o'clock from St. Patrick's Catholic church, conducted by Father Richard
Dollard. Interment was made in Calvary cemetery.
Those from a distance who attended the funeral were Sister M.
Rosalia and Sister M. Clotilda, of Davenport, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. C. W.
Hogan of Massena, Iowa; Mr. Robert Morris, of Bevington, Iowa; Mr. and
Mrs. D. P. Hogan of Massena and Mrs. M. McDonald of Creston.
