Bert W. Horan

Aledo -- Bert W. Horan, 83, of Georgetown Manor Nursing Home, Aledo, died at 1:03 this morning in Mercer County Hospital.
  Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the St. Catherine's Church in Aledo with the Rev. C.M. Meyer, pastor, officiating.
  Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Preemption Township, Mercer County. Friends may call at the Fippinger Funeral Home from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow and the Rosary will be recited at 7:30 tomorrow evening at the funeral home. Memorials can be left at the funeral home for a favorite charity.
  Mr. Horan was born Aug. 1, 1893, in Preemption, the son of Maurice C. and Mary Brennan Horan.
  He attended local schools and was graduated from Reynolds High School.
  He never married. He farmed in the Preemption Township area, retiring and moving to Aledo in 1947. Mr. Horan was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society, the Aledo Men's Club, Mercer County Farm Bureau, board of directors, serving as president for several years. He also served on the Mercer Service Co. board of directors, and for eight years was director on the Illinois State Farm Bureau Board. He was active in the Livestock Marketing Service and served as president of the former Illinois Livestock Association.
  Surviving are a sister, Sister Mary Corona Horan, BVM, of Rock Island; a nephew, Leo J. Fritch of rural Aledo, and two nieces, Mrs. James Hanrahan and Mrs. Martin Hanrahan, both of Galesburg, who were all reared by Mr. Horan.
  He was preceded in death by a sister.
