Martin J. Horan
A funeral mass for Martin J. Horan, 80, of Matherville, was
held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church in
Matherville. The Rev. Edward Harkrader, pastor, officiated, and burial
was in St. Joseph's Cemetery, rural Matherville, under direction of
Crummy & McKitrick Funeral Home, Viola.
A rosary was recited at the funeral home on Sunday evening.
Memorials were made to St. Anthony's building fund.
Mr. Horan died Thursday, Nov. 5, in Moline Lutheran Hospital.
Mr. Horan was born Oct. 8, 1901, in Preemption Township, the son
of Patrick and Handrak Conway Horan. He attended Matherville Elementary
School and was graduated from Corpus Christi High School in Galesburg.
In 1933, he married Bertha Knight in Straw, Mont.
He was a farmer and his family had farmed in the Matherville area
for 100 years. He was a member of St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church, Matherville.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Dr. James Horan of Billings,
Mont.; and a granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by a son and three brothers.
