Mary Josephine Houck

Mary Josephine Curry, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Curry, was born in Peoria, Ill., July 11, 1851, and died at her home at Carbon, Iowa, December 27, 1928, at the age of 77 years, five months and 27 days.
She came to Adams county, Iowa, 60 years ago. She was united in marriage to Henry Houck, February 26, 1871. To this union five children were born: Emma, Frank, Lizzie, Charlie mid Eli.
She was preceded in death by her husband June 3, 1912, and by her son, Charlie, November 14, 1912. There are two sisters Mrs. Malinda Drennan, of Corning, and Mrs. Julia Moore, of Corning, also three brothers, Alex Curry, of Creston, Iowa, John Curry, of Council Bluffs, and Peter Curry, of Carbon, Iowa, who survive her. Three brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.   As her age would indicate, she was one of the pioneers of the community in which she lived and during her long life she has built her influence into the community. Ever cheerful and optimistic, kind and appreciative she has left a record of life that reaches far and her going is a great loss.
Those attending the funeral from a distance were: John Curry of Council Bluffs; Mr. and Mrs. Alex Curry, of Creston; Ed Houck and family, of Bedford, and Mrs. Julia Mulvihill of Peoria, Ill.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. G. T. Roberts, of Corning, at the Carbon Methodist Episcopal church, Sunday at 2:00 p. m., and her body was laid to rest in the Quincy cemetery.
