Con C. Houlihan Passed Away Wednesday Eve
People of this community were shocked to learn this morning
that Con C. Houlihan passed away at his farm home west of Denison last
evening. Mr. Houlihan had been in failing health for the last two years,
suffering with heart trouble, and for the past several weeks had been
confined to his bed. His condition was so serious that he was not told
of the death of his brother, John Houlihan, which occurred on Tuesday,
November 2, after a brief illness.
A son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Houlihan, pioneer residents of
Crawford county, Con was born in East Boyer township about 61 years ago
and has resided in Crawford county continuously since that time.
After his marriage he engaged in farming for himself and for many
years has resided west of Denison on a farm which he highly improved.
Mr. Houlihan was a successful farmer and stock raiser and until the
drought during the past several years, derived considerable revenue from his land.
In the death of Con Houlihan, the community has lost another
substantial citizen and one who was held in high esteem by everyone. He
was a progressive and influential citizen and commanded the respect and
esteem of all with whom he came in contact. He was a devoted husband and
a kind and loving father and has a legion of friends in the community
who sincerely mourn his passing.
Besides his wife he leaves to mourn his departure two sons, Dr.
Thomas Houlihan, of Ida Grove, Dr. Francis Houlihan, of Ackley, and two
daughter, Florence and Mary, who teach school near Schleswig. There are
also four brothers, Dr. T. J. Houlihan of Ida Grove, Bryan and Martin of
Denison, and Frank of Charter Oak, and three sisters, Margaret Lally of
Vail, Mrs. E. W. Houston, of Dunlap and Mrs. Bridget Biernes.
Funeral services will be held at the St Rose of Lima Catholic
church Saturday morning at 10 o'clock with Father Casey officiation,
after which interment will be made in the family plot in the Catholic cemetery.
