John Houlihan Funeral Takes Place This A. M.
Died At His Home At 5 p.m. Tuesday; Was Not In Good Health
John Houlihan, 66, died at his home southwest of Denison
Tuesday afternoon following several weeks of failing health. Death came at 5 p.m.
The funeral was held this Thursday morning at 9:30 at the
Catholic church and interment took place in St. Rose of Lima cemetery.
The pallbearers were Joe Champion, James Meehan, Edward Houlihan, Donald
Houston, Ervin Biernes and John Lally Jr. Many relatives and friends
attended the services and burial.
John Houlihan was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Houlihan, early
settlers of Crawford county. He was born in East Boyer township Oct 27,
1871 and lived under the parental roof until he grew to young manhood.
He taught school in 1892-95. Jan 12, 1898 he was united in marriage with
Anna Meehan of Denison. Six children were born to this union, namely:
Margaret, deceased; Vincent, living in Harvard, Ill.; Bernice, Mrs. C.
D. Barnes; Helen, Mrs. George Huffman, and Paul, all of Omaha, and Louis at home.
There are left to mourn his death the widow, children, 12
grandchildren, four brothers, C. C. of Denison, Dr. T. J. of Ida Grove,
Bryan and Martin of Denison and Francis of Charter Oak. There are also
sisters Margaret Lally, Vail; Mrs. E. W. Houston, Dunlap and Mrs. Bridget Biernes.
Mr. Houlihan followed farming and stock raising the greater share
of his life. For many years he lived near Denison, and was for eleven
years a resident of Milford township. He spent three years as yardman
with the Green Ray Lumber company of Denison, during which time he and
his family lived at Lincoln way and Sweet street. For the past three
years the family has been living southwest of Denison.
