Marian Hughes
Marian E. Hughes, 84, of Aledo died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002, at
Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at United Methodist Church,
Aledo. The Rev. John Crede will officiate. Burial will be in Aledo Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Fippinger Funeral Home,
Aledo, where memorials may be left to the church or the Mercer County
Hospital Auxiliary.
She was born April 2, 1918, in Bald Bluff Township, Ill., a
daughter of Glenn and Mildred Waugh Ricketts. Marian attended the local
country school. She married Lee Bundy Hughes May 1, 1938, in Muscatine,
Iowa. He died May 31, 1980.
Mrs. Hughes was employed in the food-service department of
Roosevelt Military Academy in Aledo, and later at Oakview Country Club
and Mercer County Hospital.
She was a member of United Methodist Church, Aledo, and the
Mercer County Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, and
being with her family.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Rosalee and Cecil
Karnes, East Moline; sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Susan Hughes,
Aurora, Ill., James and Trudy Hughes, Milan, and Roger Hughes, Austin,
Texas; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four
great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Maynard Ricketts, Biggsville, and
Wilbur Ricketts, Little York; and a special friend, James Cavanah, Aledo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sisters,
Enid, Ruth, and an infant sister; and brothers, Orin, Dwight, Harold,
Gary, and infant twin brothers.
