Susan Elizabeth Wheelan Jackson
U.S. Veteran Memorial services will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday,
January 19, 2008 in the Chapel at Acadian Village for Susan Elizabeth
Wheelan Jackson, 72. She was recently diagnosed with cancer and passed
away at her home on Tuesday, January 15, 2008 surrounded by all of her
family.
The Reverend H. Hunter Huckabay, Jr., will conduct the memorial service.
Mrs. Jackson was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa where she earned a diploma
as a registered nurse at Mercy Hospital in Iowa. She earned a Bachelors
of Education and a Masters of Education from the University of Southwest
Louisiana. Mrs. Jackson has resided in Lafayette,LA for 36 years.
She met her husband in San Francisco, California working as an army
nurse. Mrs. Jackson was a special education teacher for many years and
retired from the Lafayette Parish school system. She has been a member
of Saint Pius X Catholic Church for 36 years. She has many professional
accomplishments, but her family remembers her most as a loving wife and
one of a kind mother and grandmother. She loved the arts and loved to
travel.
Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Robert McHugh Jackson; one
son, Rocky Jackson of Lafayette; three daughters, Bridget Huckabay and
her husband, Hunter of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Susie Piccione Mitchell
and her husband, Leonard of Lafayette, and Becky Clements and her
husband, Mike of Los Angeles, California; one brother, Tom Wheelan and
his wife, Joyce of Houston, Texas; one sister, Frances Cahalan and her
husband, Albert of Payson, Arizona; and seven grandchildren, Caroline
Piccione, Jack Piccione, Harper Huckabay, Hunter Grace Huckabay, Jane
Clements, Molly Clements and Courtney Weeks.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Mae Wheelan of
Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and her brothers Bob Wheelan of Wyoming and Harry
Wheelan of California.
Memorial contributions may be sent in the name of Susan Jackson to the
Lafayette Parish Public Library, 301 West Congress Street, Lafayette,
Louisiana 70506.
Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, LA will be in
charge of the arrangements
