Earl Harrison Johns
Earl H. Johns, 91, Corning, was born Feb. 22, 1904, to James
H. and Jessie F. (Ripley) Johns at Wolf Station, Ohio, and died April 18, 1995. At Colonial Manor Care
Center in Corning.
Services were held Saturday, April 22, at Coen-Beaty Funeral
Home, Corning, the Rev. John Bertogli of St Patrick Church officiating.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
Mr. Johns married Alcie Mae Patterson on April 16, 1927, at Wheeling,
W.V. They lived in Cleveland, Newcomerstown, and Salem, Ohio. Mr. Johns
worked at dairy businesses during this time.
In 1936, he took his family to Paradise, Calif., where they
operated a dairy. In 1938, on their way back to Ohio, they stopped to
see friends Orville and Eva Bradley in Corning, and this was to be their
home. The Johns founded the Johns Dairy at 721 Benton Ave., and for 25
years they operated the dairy and an ice cream parlor. Mr. Johns had
other business interests including farms and a lumber mill in Colorado.
In 1960, he sold to the Milk Producers Association and continued as a
milk broker until retiring in 1965.
Mr. Johns' hobbies included fishing, hunting, flying, and
traveling. He and his wife made winter trips to the south and spent many
years in Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Alcie Dec. 16,
1976; a brother and four sisters.
Survivors include a son. Earl (wife Betty) Johns of Council
Bluffs; a daughter Patricia (husband Robert) Mack of Corning: four
grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Honorary bearers were Art Kapple, Jack Butler, Bob Wheeler, Paul
Lashley, Cliff Bradley, Harry Grundman.
