Nellie Johnson
Funeral services for Mrs. Nellie Marie Johnson, 81, of 401 West
Main St., Aledo, were held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Reiser-Trimble
Funeral Home, Aledo, with the Rev. Claude Moreland, pastor of First
Baptist Church, Aledo, officiating. Burial was at Aledo Cemetery.
Memorials were designated to the Mercer County Chapter of the
American Cancer Society.
Mrs. Johnson died Saturday, June 25 at Mercer County Hospital.
Nellie Marie Sproston was born Dec. 30, 1901 in Mercer County,
the daughter of Robert S. and Katie Cooper Sproston. She married G.
Arthur Johnson Sept. 15, 1926 in Aledo. He died in March 1977.
In 1976 the couple had celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
She and her husband had farmed their entire married life in
Mercer County and retired to Aledo in 1966 after selling their farm
northeast of Aledo.
Mrs. Johnson was educated in Mercer County Schools.
She was affiliated with the Baptist faith.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Juanita McKinney of Aledo;
two sons, Laverne A., Ft. Collins, CO and Lloyd E. of Aledo; a
half-sister, Mrs. Roberta Brooks of Seaton, a half-brother, Dale
Wagoner, Hot Springs, AR; six grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one
granddaughter, and one grandson.
