Elizabeth Haggerty Keefe

  Elizabeth Haggerty Keefe died at her home in Taylor county on Sunday, last, aged 78 years. The funeral services were conducted from St. Patrick's Catholic church in Corning yesterday at 11 o'clock a. m., Rev. Father Beade, of Creston, officiating, assisted by Rev. Father Sheridan. Interment was made in the Catholic cemetery south of town. Mrs. Keefe was well known to many of our people. She has of recent years been making her home with her son, Will, in Holt township. Another son, James and a daughter, Mrs. McDonald, of Creston, survive her.

Mrs. James Keefe

  The death of Mrs. James Keefe, sr., nee Miss Elizabeth Heargty, an aged and highly respected citizen, occurred at the home of her son, James Keefe of Holt township, Taylor county, at 9:40 a. m. last Sunday, after a lingering illness at the advanced age of 86 years, 10 months and 22 days. She was born in the County of Cork, Ireland, March 13, 1818, and came to this country April 20, 1833, and settled in New York, and moved from there to New Orleans where she married James Keefe, April 20, 1850, and to them was born five children, two dying in infancy and three living, the living being James, with whom she has been living since the death of her husband Sept. 21, 1887, and William both of Taylor county and Mrs. Mike McDonald of Creston. After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Keefe move to St. Louis where they resided until 1859, and where their children were all born, moving from there to Dubuque county, Iowa, where they resided until 1871 when they came to Taylor county. The funeral was held from St. Patrick's Catholic church on Tuesday at 11 a. m., conducted by Fathers John Noonan of Lenox and B. J. Sheridan of Corning, when high mass was celebrated assisted by the Creston choir. Interment in the Catholic cemetery.
