James Kelleher

Kelleher - James Kelleher Sr., one of the oldest residents of the lower end of Rock Island county, died of pneumonia after an illness of three days at 9 o'clock on the morning of Dec. 18, 1907. The deceased has been a resident of this county for 55 years and was one of the wealthiest farmers of the town of Edgington. He was born in county Leightrim, Ireland, in 1819, and immigrated to America in 1849, landing in New York City where he remained for three years. In 1852 he was united in marriage to Miss Eliza Beglan at New Orleans. From there he went with his wife to Pennsylvania where they staid for a short time. In 1855 they came to Illinois and settled in the town of Edgington where they spent the remainder of their lives. Six children were born to them, of whom Mary, the wife of John Mack, and , Catherine preceded their parents in death. Those who survive him are Dr. Michael Kelleher of Chicago, Thomas, living on a farm near Reynolds, and James and Elizabeth at home. Funeral services were conducted on Dec. 20 at St. Joseph's church in Rock Island, Dean Quinn officiating. Interment was made in Calvary cemetery beside the grave of his wife who died in October 1904. Mr. Kelleher was an upright citizen and lived an honorable and industrious life. May his soul rest in peace.
