Reynolds Man Is Killed When Car Crashes Culvert
Reynolds, Ill., Nov. 29-(Argus News Service.)-James Joseph
Kelleher, 48, Reynolds farmer, was killed early this morning when his
automobile crashed into a concrete abutment about a mile-and-a-quarter
west of here on route 94, after skidding on icy pavement near the culvert.
A verdict of accidental death cause by a neck fracture was
returned by a jury summoned this morning in the Freytag mortuary by Dr.
V. A. McClanahan of Aledo, Mercer county coroner. Members of the jury
were John Taylor, Otis Likely, Al McAdam, Charles Schlueter, Francis
Quist and Max MaQuillian, all of Reynolds.
The accident occurred on the south side of the highway, at a
point midway between the A. H McConnell and George Fassett corners.
There was evidence the machine had left the pavement some distance from
the culvert. A passing motorist came upon the accident shortly after 5
o'clock and notified others in Reynolds.
Mr. Kelleher was born April 26, 1892, in the Kelleher homestead
two miles northwest of Reynolds, a son of Thomas and Margaret Kelleher,
and had resided in this vicinity all his life. He resided on the farm
with his mother. Mr. Kelleher was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic
church at Edgington and of the Modern Woodman lodge.
Surviving are the mother; three sisters, Miss Gertrude, at home,
Mrs. Vincent Daniel of Davenport and Mrs. Charles McManus of Reynolds,
and two brothers, Edward, at home, and John of Reynolds. His father and
a brother, Thomas, preceded him in death.

Rites Monday For Victim of Auto Mishap
James Kelleher, 48, of Reynolds Community Dies as Car Hits
Abutment on State Route 94
Mercer county's second fatal automobile accident in a year
occurred early Friday morning. The victim was James Kelleher, age 48,
whose car apparently skidded striking a concrete abutment west of
Reynolds about midway between the A. H. McConnell corner and the George
Fassett corner.
The car was west bound and crashed on the south side of state
route 94. The driver, alone in the car, was found dead by passing motorists.
Funeral services for Mr. Kelleher were held Monday morning, Dec.
2, at St. Ambrose church in Milan.
Inquest Held at Reynolds
An inquest was conducted by Dr. V. A. McClanahan, Mercer county
coroner, at the Freytag mortuary in Reynolds. The jurors who returned a
verdict of accidental death were: John Taylor, Mac McQuillian, Otis
Likely, Al McAdam, Charles Schleuter and Francis Quist. The accident
victim suffered a broken neck and fractured skull
James Joseph Kelleher was born April 26, 1892, on the Kelleher
homestead, northwest of Reynolds, the oldest son of Thomas and Margaret
Kelleher. He lived in the community all his life. He was a member of the
Modern Woodmen and St. Patrick's church of Edgington. He was a farmer
and resided with his mother.
Surviving are his mother, three sisters, Gertrude at home, Mrs.
Vincent Daniel of Davenport and Mrs. Charles McManus of Reynolds; two
brothers, John of Reynolds and Edward at home.
His father and a brother Thomas preceded him in death.
Burial was in Calvary cemetery, Rock Island.
Pallbearers were Thomas Fitzpatrick, Henry O'Leary, Bert Horan,
Ward Moffitt, Warren Oak and R. C. Wait.
