Kelleher
Altho it was known that Thomas Kelleher Sr. had been in ill health
for several months, it was not generally known that his condition was
serious and so it was that news of his death came as a shock on Monday
morning.
For the past two months he had been confined to his home west of
Reynolds and the end came at 2:30 a. m., Feb. 26, as the result of
complications of disease.
His birth occurred on Nov.2, 1859, in the town of Andalusia, but in
early childhood he removed with his parents to the old homestead west of
this village where he grew to manhood.
On Sep 2, 1890, he was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Shea of
Mechanicsville, Iowa. To them were born seven children--James, Thomas,
Gertrude, John, Mary, Edward and Frances--all still at home.
Besides the wife and children, the deceased is also survived by a
sister, Miss Elizabeth, and one brother, James.
From the home at eight o'clock on Wednesday morning, the body was taken
to St. Joseph's church in Rock Island where Rev. J. J. Quinn conducted
high mass at eleven. The sermon was preached by Father Timmons of
Keithsburg. Interment was made at Calvary cemetery.
For more than half a century Mr. Kelleher had been a resident of
Edgington. He lived in the town when the nearest railway station was
Rock Island and he was present to see the village of Reynolds located
back in 1876 in a field of ripening corn.
He was a successful farmer and stock raiser and had bought, fed and
shipped many a carload of stock. He loved his family and he was faithful
to his friends. May he rest in peace.
