Robert M. Kilgore
Galesburg - Robert M. Kilgore, 76, Galesburg, died at 2:35
p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 2008 at his home.
He was born Oct. 6, 1931 in Monmouth, the son of Charles and
Cecilia Marie Frogner Kilgore. He married Virginia G. Ryner on April 30,
1955 in Galesburg. She survives.
He served in the U.S. Navy for three years in Korea and Japan.
He worked for Coke, Sunbeam Bread and Gates Rubber. He also
worked for Southern Cross Gas Company out of Atlanta, Ga. and later was
the manager for Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. He retired in 1993.
He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1949. He was a member
of the Wiles American Legion Post in Abingdon, the 40 & 8 and St.
Patrick's Catholic Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Michael
(Robin) Kilgore, Galesburg, Kelly (Shelly) Kilgore, Munford, Tenn. and
John (Melinda) Kilgore, Galesburg; two daughters, Nancy (Russell) Wong,
Galesburg and Kathy Kilgore (Curtis) Crawford, Galesburg; 15
grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death
by his parents, one brother, John "Jack" Kilgore, and two
sisters, Frances Ankeney and Betty Thurman.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008
in Corpus Christi Catholic Church. The Rev. Joseph Presley will
officiate. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West
Galesburg Chapel, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be in
St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Monmouth with Military Rites by Ralph M.
Noble American Legion Post 285. Memorials may be made to the Juvenile
Diabetes Research Foundation International.
