Manilla - Mass of the Christian burial for Vincent Emil
Kloewer of Manilla will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, 1999, at
Sacred Heart Church in Manilla.
Mr. Kloewer, 85, died Monday, Feb. 22, 1999, at Manning Regional
Healthcare Center following a brief illness.
The Revs. Robert Gralapp and Jim Wilberding will concelebrate the
Mass. Servers will be Chris Mohr, Justin Mohr and Adam Mohr. Gift
bearers will be Kari Kloewer, Michelle Ramsey and Sheila Wardlow. Lector
will be Verna Ewoldt. Eucharistic minister will be Jim Kloewer.
Casket bearers will be David Ramsey, Kory Kloewer, Donovan
Kloewer, Steve Reinart, Matt Franks, Nick Kloewer and Josh Disburg.
Honorary casket bearers will be Rick Ramsey, Dan Ramsey, Ron Ramsey,
Eric Ramsey, Mitchel Kloewer, Jeff Reinart, John Reinart, Todd Franks,
Spencer Kloewer and Jakob Kloewer.
Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery at Manilla.
Mr. Kloewer's family prayed a rosary this afternoon at Ohde
Funeral Home in Manilla. There will also be a prayer service at 7 and
another rosary at 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Born July 28, 1913, near Westphalia in Shelby County, he was a
son of Anton and Barbara (Gaul) Kloewer. Mr. Kloewer attended St. Paul
Catholic School at Defiance then worked on his family's farm.
He and Ruby B. Ewoldt were married June 5, 1939, at Sacred Heart
Church in Manilla.
The Kloewers farmed east of Defiance for 14 years then farmed south of Manilla.
They moved into town in 1960, and Mr. Kloewer worked as a truck
driver for Olson Produce then Western Engineering. He retired in 1984.
Mr. Kloewer moved to Manilla Manor Dec. 23, 1998. He was admitted
to the hospital four days before his death.
Mr. Kloewer was active in of Sacred Heart Church in Manilla. He
was lector and served on the church choir, Holy Name Society, Knights of
Columbus and finance committee. He also enjoyed fishing, horses, bingo and baseball.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby, of Manilla; eight children a|nd
their spouses: James and Norma Klbewer of Stuart, Joan and Dennis
Ramsey, of Manning, Betty and Merle Reinart of Carroll, Mae and Ron
Franks of Essex, Leo and Gayle Kloewer of York, Neb., Linda and David
Disburg of Carroll, Willie Kloewer of Arlington, Texas, and Michael and
Vickie Kloewer of Albany Ore.; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Kloewer, of
Albany; a son-in-law, Phil Gibbins, of Belle Plaine; 34 grandchildren;
47 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister-inlaw, Bernice Dotzler.
Mr. Kloewer was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Edward
Kloewer; two daughters: Mildred in infancy and Leona Gibbons; seven
brothers and their spouses: Al and Kloewer, Pete and Lizzie Kloewer,
Paul and Josephine Kloewer, Tony Kloewer, Herman and Viola Kloewer, and
Alphonse Kloewer; and two sisters: Katherine Nehl and her husband, Jim,
and Marie Kloewer.
