Charles Kness
Matherville - Funeral services for Charles "Chuck"
Kness, 51, who died yesterday afternoon in his home here, will be
Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Crummy Funeral Home in Viola and at 11
a.m. at St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church in Matherville. Burial will
be in St. John's Cemetery, Viola.
The Rosary will be recited at 7 tomorrow night in the funeral
home, where friends may call after 2 p.m. tomorrow. Memorials may be
made to Catholic charities.
Mr. Kness was born March 6, 1921 in Matherville, a son of John
and Mary McCardle Kness. He received his education in Matherville and
Sherrard schools.
He married Darlene Adams, June 2, 1939 in Cedar Rapids. For 33
years he was employed at the Farmall Works, where he was assistant
general supervisor of machinery repair.
Mr. Kness was a member of St. Anthony's Church and served as a
trustee. He was treasurer of the Matherville-Viola fire District, and
was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a former member of the Aledo VFW Post.
The widow survives with three daughters, Mrs. Wayne Krouse of
Dubuque, Iowa, Mrs. Patrick Verschoore of Taylor Ridge and Mrs. Randall
Jacobs of Chicago; five grandchildren; his father, in Viola; two
half-sisters, Mrs. Otis Mack of Viola and Mrs. Kenneth McFate of
Columbia, Mo.; and a half-brother, Ralph Kness of Fayetteville, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his mother and a grandchild.
