Funeral Services For Mrs. John Kness, 59, Were Held Yesterday
Funeral rites for Mrs. John Kness, 59, of Viola, were held at
9:30 yesterday, Tuesday, Dec. 20, 1969 in the Crummy funeral home,
Viola, and at St. John's Roman Catholic church, Viola.
The Rev. C. M. Meyer, pastor, officiated and burial was in the
church cemetery in Viola. On the previous night, the Rosary was recited
at 8 p. m. in the funeral home.
Born in Iowa
Mrs. Kness, the former Julia Weyer, was born Sept. 20, 1901 in
Burlington, Iowa, a daughter of John and Elizabeth Wioman Weyer. She was
reared in the Burlington area.
She was married to John Kness May 5, 1945 in St. Joseph's Roman
Catholic church, Rock Island. Since that time the couple made their home
in Viola. She was a member of St. John's Church and the Altar and Rosary
Society of the church.
Surviving are widower; two stepsons, Charles, Matherville, and
Ralph, Fort Bragg, N. C.; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Imogene McFate,
Columbia, Mo., and Mrs. Joan Mack, Viola; 11 stepgrandchildren; four
sisters, Mrs. Ross Robinson, Mrs. Lena Johnson and Mrs. Kate Stumpf, all
of Burlington, and Mrs. Gertrude Uttry, Rock Island, and four brothers,
Henry, George and Anton, all of Burlington, and John, West Burlington.
Her parents, a brother and six sisters preceded her in death.
