Nicholas Krebsbach
Another pioneer Adams county citizen passed to his final reward when
Nicholas Krebsbach of Carl township, died at his home Tuesday evening,
February 15th, at 7:50 o'clock, after a lingering illness of about a
year. Mr. Krebsbach was aged 80 years, nine months and twenty-eight days.
Nick Krebsbach was born April 18, 1848 at Mayen on the Rhine in Germany.
He came to the United States in the spring of 1868 and located at
Peoria, Illinois, where he was married in 1874 to Marguerite Jennings,
who preceded him in death February 18, 1915. In 1878 Mr. and Mrs.
Krebsbach came to Iowa and locate near Coin, where they lived for a few
years and then moved to Adams county, which has since been the home of
this highly respected pioneer family. The deceased is survived by six
children and eighteen grandchildren. The surviving children are Mrs.
James Miller and Mrs. James Hatton of Adams county, Mrs. Frank Miller of
Johnson county, and Pete, Joe and Nick Krebsbach who reside at the home
place. Mr. Krebsbach was a loving father, a man of sterling qualities, a
kind and thoughtful neighbor who will be greatly missed by the whole community.
Funeral services were held at St. Patrick's church in Corning Thursday
morning, February 18, the requiem mass being read by the pastor, Rev.
Father M. J. Powers. Interment was made in the Calvary cemetery.
