Halbur Youth Was Killed In Coasting Mishap Last Week

Sled Crashes Into Auto and Ferdinand Krogman Is Fatally Injured.

Ferdinand Krogman of Halbur was almost instantly killed Wednesday evening, January 23, 1929, at Halbur when he, together with a group of boys, was coasting from the Frank Friedman home, south, down the hill, over the Chicago Northwestern railway tracks, and crossing the main graveled road in the descent. Ferdinand Krogman and Walter Friedman, riding on one sled, crashed into the rear wheel of Ben Neppl's automobile as they were about to cross this road. Young Krogman's head received a terrible blow when the two moving objects came together. He died from the injury 15 minutes later. Walter suffered a broken arm and shoulder and minor bruises. He was immediately taken to the St. Anthony hospital in this city.
Funeral services for Ferdinand were held Saturday morning, January 26, at 9 o'clock at the St. Augustine church, Halbur, and interment was made in the family lot of the Catholic cemetery. Pallbearers were William Wittrock, Anton Eikman, Peter Hausman, John Schenkelberg, Frank Bierl and Frank Eischeld. The honorary pallbearers were his classmates, Carl Schenkelborg, Leonard Eischeld, Wilbur Fuchs, Art Peterson, Eugene Hausmann and Henry Hoesing. Edwin Eichman was the cross-bearer.
Ferdinand Krogman was born April 21, 1914, on the farm, which has always been his home. He attended the parochial school and graduated with high honors in 1927. This year he and his mother were making preparations to operate their farm, which since the death of his father had been farmed by his uncle, Herman Heinrichs.
Surviving are his sorrowing mother and three younger sisters, Marie, Hilaria and Evelyn. His father, August Krogman, died February 4, 1920.
Mrs. Krogman has the sympathy of the entire community in the death of her promising young son.
