Funeral Services Held Monday For Andrew Kullberg

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 3:00 P. M. from
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Thorpe for Andrew Kullberg, who passed
away on November 6th at the Cherokee State Hospital. Dr. William
Baddeley had charge of the services. Interment was in Ferguson cemetery.
E. A. Swanson was the soloist.
The pall bearers were Oscar Westrom, George Fischer, Wilmer
Hanson, C. W. Spencer, E. A. Swanson and Herman Swanson
Andrew P. E. Kullberg was born in Smoland, Sweden, on April 3rd,
1866 and passed away at the Cherokee State Hospital, November 6th, 1949,
at the age of 83 years, 7 months and two days.
In 1883, he came to the United States with his parents, and
located in Crawford County, Iowa. He became a United States citizen two years later.
On March 7th, 1889, he was united in marriage to Anna Benson of
Kiron and to this union four children were born. One son, Clarence,
dying at the age of four, and one daughter, Mrs. Connie Walters, of
Odebolt in 1927. His wife also preceded him in death in 1947.
It was while he was engaged in construction work that he received
a severe injury on his head which resulted in his mental illness. For a
while he was in the Clarinda State Hospital, but was taken to Cherokee
in 1915, where he spent the rest of his life. During his stay at the
hospital he was physically able to carry on the duties assigned to him
until his health began to fail three years ago.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Alta Maas of Charter Oak and
one son Andrew Kullberg of Lake City and five grandchildren.
