P. J. Lally

  Nishna Valley - Funeral services for P. J. Lally, retired farmer, who died Friday, July 3 were held on Monday morning at 9:30 a.m. with a solemn requiem high mass celebrated at the Sacred Heart church in Manilla. Rev. John Doherty of Dow City was celebrant; Rev. Bradley of Defiance was deacon; Rev. Achatz of Manning was sub-deacon and Rev. D. L. Clark of Vail was master of ceremonies. Burial was in the Mt. Olivet cemetery.
  Pallbearers were Leo Hickey of Grand Meadow, Minn.; Dr. Morelle Houlihan of Ida Grove; John Lally, Jr.; Donald Lally of Vail; Floyd Meehan and Earl Hickey.
  P. J. Lally was born in DeKalb, Ill. on February 2, 1875 and was 78 years, seven months and three days at the time of his death. He was the oldest son of Frank E. and Jane Hamilton Lally, one of eight children.
  The Family located in Hayes township and most of his childhood and early manhood was spent in that locality. He received his education in the Westside schools. On May 1, 1901 he was married to Ellen Frances Meehan at Manilla. They had six children: Adrian of Dunlap, Leone of Rock Island; Frances of Des Moines; Claire of Harlan; Laverne at home and Lucille of Manilla, all of whom survive.
  Also surviving are eight grandchildren, three brothers, and two sisters. Mrs. Lally preceded her husband in death.
