Simon Langel, 83, of rural Carroll died Saturday, April 21,
2007, at Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Neb.
Mass of the Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday,
April 25, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll with the Rev. James
McCormick officiating. Gift bearers will be Lisa Raner, Pam Wilford,
Sarah Martin, Jessica James and Jennifer Schroeder.
Casket bearers will be Leon Bauer, Dale Schlichte, Bill Rupiper,
Ron Langel, Terry Masching and Gene Nellesen.
Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery at Carroll.
Visitation starts at 4 p.m., the Knights of Columbus will lead a
rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Twit
Funeral Home in Carroll. Visitation will resume at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
A son of Clem and Anna (Fangman) Langel, he was born June 1,
1923, at Templeton and attended Sacred Heart School there.
He and Viola Masching were married Jan. 21, 1947, at Sts. Peter
and Paul Church in Carroll with the Rev. Lambert Schenkelberg officiating.
Mr. Langel farmed in Carroll County throughout his working life.
He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish and Men's Club, an honorary
50-plus-year member of the Knights of Columbus and member of the Old
Iron and Royal Rovers camping group. He enjoyed taking his miniature
ponies to parades, area nursing homes, Living History Farms at Des
Moines and pony rides for children. He also enjoyed displaying his
antique toys and engines and spending time with his dog Tiny.
Survivors include his wife, Viola, of Carroll; a son, Tom Langel,
and his wife, Cindy, of Carroll; a daughter, Judy Mayer, and her
husband, Ron, of Jordan, Minn.; five grandchildren; six
great-grandchildren; a brother, Vincent Langel, of Templeton; four
sisters: Hildegard Rupiper of Carroll, Kathryn Dopheide of Carroll,
Justine Langel of Carroll and Margaret Murray of Templeton; and
sisters-in-law:
Bonnie Langel of Carroll, Evelyn Langel of Carroll, Marian Berning of
Breda, Julie Schmitz of Carroll, Helen Stevens of Templeton, Dorothy
Masching of Carroll, Marvin and Judy Masching of Worthington, Minn., and
Alvin and Ruth Masching of Colorado Springs, Colo.
Mr. Langel was preceded in death by his parents; his
parents-in-law, Fred and Mayme Masching; five brothers: Henry, Adolph,
Joseph, Edward and Ted Langel; and five sisters: Clara Bauer, Mayme
Bauer, Regina Schlichte, Anna Dopheide and Beatrice Langel.
