Martha Appleby Larson

  Martha Appleby was born in Hugonsund, Norway, Feb. 4, 1856. In 1868 she came to this country with her parents, brother and sisters and settled near New Sharon.
  She had been married twice. One son Roger Armstrong, survives the first marriage. To the second union five children were born: Anna, Mamie, Agnes, Carl, and Rebecca. Of these all survive except Karl who died in infancy.
  Besides these she took a real mother's place to her husband's five children. Mrs. C. U. Bell Mrs. John Alertsen, Mrs. Jake Blankenfeld, now deceased, Carrie and Herman Larson.
  She was a member of the Lutheran church, and an active member of the Ladies Aid. She had been in poor health for some time but had not been confined to her bed until the past two months.
  Her death occurred Wednesday morning, October 23rd, at her home seven miles southeast of Grinnell, and she was laid to rest in the Hazelwood cemetery Friday afternoon. Rev. J. M. Brown conducted the services.
  Those from out of town attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Whinery and Mr. Chris Appleby of Altoona, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. J. Mahail, Mitchellville, Iowa; Mrs. Jettie Adams, Chicago; Mr. Chrisen Appleby, Des Moines; Mr. O. Shayer, Gilman, Iowa; Mrs. Martha Windahl, Mr. Ed Windahl and Mr. Henry Windahl of New Sharon.

Mrs. Martha Larson Dead.

The death of Mrs. Martha Larson, wife of Abe Larson occurred Wednesday morning at her home, seven miles southeast of Grinnell. Interment took place at 2 P. M. today. Services at the grave were conducted by Mr. Peterson of the Grinnell Baptist church.
