Last week we made short mention of the death of "Grandma" Larson, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sam McConkay, Feb 9. Mary Ann Nelson was born September 29, 1832 in Denmark, and was united in marriage to Christian Larson December 25, 1851. To this union six children were born, one of whom. Mrs. Emal Schull passed from this life in 1887. The surviving children are: Mrs. S. W. McConkay, of Corning; Mrs. C. H. Stender of Cumberland; Mrs. Jacob Peterson, Corning; Mrs. Mary Rogers, Denver, Colo.; and Walter Larson of Corning. Mr. and Mrs. Christian Larson came to the United States of America in the year 1872 and located in Nodaway county, Missouri, where they lived for a period of two years, when they came to Adams county, Iowa, living in Lincoln township for a few years. In the year 1885 they came to Corning and on August 4th 1904, Mr. Larson passed to his reward at about 80 years of age. After the death of her husband Mrs. Larson made her home most of the time with her daughter, Mrs. Sam McConkay and the last 15 years she was in that home continuously. "Grandma" Larson, as she was familiarly called by her many friends was one of the dear old ladies of earth. She was love and admired by all who knew her. She lived to the ripe age of 90 years, 4 months and 23 days and spent her years in such manner as to leave to her relatives and friends a goodly heritage in the example she set and her true christian living. Mrs. Larson united with the Lutheran church at an early age and retained her membership in that church, but there being no church of that denomination in Corning she attended the Presbyterian church as long as she able to get to the meeting place. She leaves to mourn her loss her children mentioned above, 29 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren one great great grandchild. The pallbearers were six grandsons of Mrs. Larson, one for each of the families of her children. They were Edward Larson, Elwood Rogers, Sam McConkay, Ivan Stender, Andrew Peterson and Louis Schull. Relatives from out of town who attended the funeral were Mike Barry, of Massena; Mrs. Anna Jensen, Mrs. Joe Jensen, Alfred Larson and wife Elwood Rogers, all of Omaha; Mrs. C. H. Stender and sons, William, James and Ira, and her daughter. Mrs. J. F. Kursman, of Cumberland; Mrs. Mary Rogers of Denver; Mrs. Lara Both of Villisca.
