Walter W. Larson
Walter W. Larson, son of Christian and Mary Larson, was born
Sept. 3, 1868 at Copenhagen, Denmark. He died Friday, August 24, 1951 at
his home in Sioux City, Iowa at the age of 81 years, 11 months and 21
days. A cerebral hemorrhage caused his death, although he has been ill
several years with a heart and kidney condition.
He came to Adams county about 1887, making his home in Corning
for many years. For seven years he was sheriff of Adams county, his term
ending in 1910. During the following years, 1911 and 1912, he was in the
insurance and real estate business, forming a partnership with Bert
Gibson. His chief occupation was that of salesman.
He was married to Kate Ford, who passed away Sept. 8, 1927. To
this union were born four children, all of whom survive: Ralph W. Larson
of Los Angeles, Calif.; Edward J. Larson of Corning; Alfred J. Larson of
Omaha, Nebr.; Mary C. Larson of Alexandria, Va. On June 30, 1930 he was
married to Ella Cyr at Sioux City, which has been his home since 1927.
Besides his wife, he is also survived by his sisters, Mrs. Mary
Rogers, York, Nebr.; Mrs. Tena Stender, Council Bluffs, Iowa;
grandchildren, Richard Larson of Kansas City, Mo., and Anita Jane
Larson, of Omaha, all children of Alfred Larson; Mary Lu and Eddie
Larson, children of Edward Larson.
Funeral services were held Monday morning, Aug. 27, at 10 a. m.
at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Corning, conducted by Rev. Father M.
J. Powers. Pall bearers were Francis Mack, Robert Mack, Paul Gauthier,
Robert Gauthier, John Jones and Gene Mullin. Interment was in Calvary
cemetery.
Those attending services from out-of-town were: Mr. and Mrs. A.
J. Larson, Richard, Marjie and Anita, of Omaha; Miss Mary Larson,
Washington, D. C., Mrs. Will Gentle, of St. Paul; Mr. and Mrs. John
Mulchal, of St. Paul; Mrs. George Miller, Miss Ursula Fagan, and Mr. and
Mrs. F. J. Taylor, all of Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. Art Mitchell, Sioux City;
Joe Ford, Creston; Tom Ford, Tingley, Iowa.
