Harlan Leckliter
Corning friends learned with deep regret that Harlan Leckliter,
a former Corning resident, had passed from this life at his home in Des
Moines Sunday morning, January 29, 1928, after a long illness, from a
cancerous trouble. He was aged 43 years, 8 months and 10 days. The body
was brought to Corning and funeral services were held at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Edgar Cupp Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, conducted by Rev.
E. S. Mencher, pastor of the M. E. church. Interment was made in Oak Hill cemetery.
Walter Harlan Lechliter was born November 19, 1883, at Carbon,
Iowa. Most of his life was spent in Corning. He was educated in the
Corning schools, graduating with the class of 1904 and graduated from
Ames college as a civil engineer in 1909. He spent three years in the
Philippine islands on government work and on his return to the states
began work as paving contractor, locating in Des Moines, and he
continued at this work until illness prevented his activities.
The deceased gentleman was one of Corning's fine young men of
whom all who knew him were proud. He had made good in the world and was
a fine gentleman with a host of friends who mourn with his loved ones
the loss of a good citizen and friend.
Mr. Leckliter is survived by his wife; his mother, Mrs. C. J.
Leckliter, of Corning; and the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. Alma
Bilderback, of Council Bluffs; Mrs. Katherine Farrar, Richmond, Cal.;
Mrs. C. L. McGhee, Steins, N. M.; Mrs. Arthur Miller, of LaGrange, Ill.;
Oliver Leckliter, of Des Moines; Ralph Leckliter, of Pekin, Ill.
