Charles John Lenz
Charles John Lenz, son of John Francis and Mary Margaret
(Mack) Lenz, was born Nov. 28, 1954, at Rosary Hospital, Corning, Iowa,
and died April 21, 1991, at his home in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of
36 years 4 months and 23 days from complications of diabetes.
He attended grade and high school at Corning, graduating in 1973.
He held many class offices throughout junior and senior high school. He
received state contest honors in speech and drama, vocal and
instrumental music and was a member of the National Honor Society. He
worked at McClelland Drug Store during high school years and for ten
summers at the Ozark Bar-B-Que at Sunrise Beach, Mo.
Charles attended the University of Iowa at Iowa City for two
years. He graduated from Southwestern Community College at Creston in
1977 with honors, earning an Associate Degree in Electronic Technology.
Since graduation he has worked for Electronic Engineering Company, Des
Moines, as a communications specialist.
He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and the Corning
Knights of Columbus. He was a choir member and an altar boy. He enjoyed
the theatre, music, reading, nature and was an avid bicyclist, enjoyed
canoeing, swimming and travel.
Charles was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather,
Charles John Lenz, and his maternal grandparents, Lewis and Isabel
(Curry) Mack. He is survived by his parents, John and Mary Lenz of
Corning and his sister and husband, Bernadette and Christopher Lynch and
their children, Joseph and Elizabeth of East Stroudsburg, Pa., his
paternal grandmother Elizabeth (Wagner) Lenz of Ellsworth, Minn., many
aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends.
Services were held at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Corning,
Thursday, April 25, 1991, at 10:30 a.m. Rev. John Bertogli officiated
the Mass. Lectors were Jack and Theresa Cruise, musicians: Marie Ekdahl,
pianist, song leaders: Jane Seaton, Dale Boswell, Richard Hogan,
servers: Thad Ekdahl, Dan Boswell, Joel Boswell, extraordinary
ministers: Ray and Joan Mack, Jack and Theresa Cruise, Offertory: Chris
and Bernadette Lynch and family. Tributes were made to Charlie by his
brother-in-law, Dr. Christopher Lynch and his cousin Michael Cruise.
Casket bearers were his cousins and friends: Dan Mack, Jane Mack,
Tony Mack, Andy Mack, Michael Mack, Terese Wentworth, Ralph Mauch, Les
Homan, Mike Cruise, Joan Nevius Flesch, Jack Nevius, Tim Swain, David
Sinning and Jim Neff. Honorary bearers were his co-workers at Electronic
Engineering in Des Moines. Ushers were Oscar Lynam, Don Lovely and Frank
Swain. Internment was at Calvary Cemetery, Corning, Iowa.
